Where I have been and where you could go: Maui
Imagine stepping onto the sands where “White Lotus” came alive, surrounded by the splendor of Maui’s top beach resorts, perfect for both individual relaxation and group adventures. During my recent Maui travel, I dove deep into the luxurious charms of The Ritz Carlton Kapalua, Four Seasons Wailea, and Westin Ka’anapali. These resorts, ideal for group getaways or corporate retreats, each offer a unique slice of paradise, catering to diverse tastes with spacious accommodations and a plethora of activities designed for communal enjoyment. Yet, as you soak in the luxury, the island unveils another compelling narrative. Two years after the Lahaina fires, the scars remain, affecting both locals and visitors alike. Here, you can glimpse the intricate contrast of opulent travel experiences set against a backdrop of resilience and recovery. Whether you’re planning a solo expedition or coordinating a group retreat, Maui’s story of rejuvenation enriches the experience, reminding travelers of the island’s enduring spirit and charm.

Dining at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua is a culinary journey. From farm-to-table concepts to traditional Hawaiian fare, the resort’s restaurants cater to every palate. The Banyan Tree restaurant, with its stunning ocean views, is a must-visit for a romantic dinner. stands as a beacon of luxury on Maui’s northwest coast. Insiders Tip: The beach at the resort is stunning and offers a sense of seclusion, making it a perfect spot to relax. However, reaching it requires navigating a steep pathway. While the walk down is manageable, the return trip can be more challenging, especially for elderly guests or those with mobility concerns. If needed, the resort likely offers golf cart transportation to assist with the journey back.

Kapalua Beach Vibe
Kapalua Beach, located on Maui’s northwestern shore, is a renowned destination known for its golden sands and exceptionally calm, clear waters. It is widely recognized as a family-friendly beach, offering excellent conditions for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing due to its protected cove, which shields it from strong waves with offshore coral reefs. Snorkelers can expect to encounter vibrant tropical fish and sea turtles in its active marine ecosystem. The beach is equipped with amenities such as restrooms and showers, and it provides access to the scenic Kapalua Coastal Trail.
Charm of Four Seasons Wailea

Four Seasons Wailea, made famous by the first season of “White Lotus,” is a paradise within paradise. This resort epitomizes Hawaiian luxury with its impeccable service and attention to detail.
The resort’s adults-only Serenity Pool offers a tranquil escape with underwater music and stunning ocean views. For families, the Waterfall Pool provides a fun-filled environment with a swim-up bar for adults.
Four Seasons Wailea takes pride in its culinary offerings. From the beachfront Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante (one of my favorite restaurants on the island) to the award-winning Spago by Wolfgang Puck, each dining venue promises a gastronomic adventure.
Insiders Tip: The resort is currently offering an exclusive behind the scenes tour of filming locations from Season 1 The White Lotus. Very interesting and a must do if you are staying at the property.

Wailea Beach Vibe
Wailea, on Maui’s sunny south shore, is known for its luxury resorts, beautiful beaches, and laid-back vibe. Wailea Beach is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing, with calm waters and great views—especially in winter when you might spot whales. The Wailea Oceanfront Walk connects several beaches and is great for a morning jog or evening stroll. With upscale shopping, dining, and nearby adventures, Wailea has something for everyone.
Enchanting Features at Westin Ka’anapali

Craving a slice of paradise? The Westin Ka’anapali delivers in spades with its breathtaking setting and vibrant energy. Whether you’re a serendipitous solo traveler, part of a corporate retreat, or journeying with like-minded food and wine aficionados, this resort is a haven of relaxation and discovery.
Lush Gardens & Waterfall Pools
Imagine immersing yourself in the lush, tropical beauty surrounding the resort’s pool area. Picture this: cascading waterfalls set against verdant gardens, creating a serene oasis where you can unwind and bask in the beauty of nature. The multi-level pool complex isn’t just about swimming; it’s an experience, complete with thrilling slides for the young at heart and peaceful nooks for those in search of tranquility.
A Feathery Welcome
While you lounge poolside, you might catch a glimpse of the resident flamingos, elegantly strutting their stuff around the water’s edge. These vibrant birds add a splash of color and whimsy, making your poolside relaxation even more enchanting. Nearby, the giant carp fish glides gracefully through the water, their shimmering scales catching the sunlight. It’s a little slice of Eden and just so relaxing.

Proximity to Whalers Village
The resort is super close to Whalers Village, which is amazing if you’re up for some shopping, dining, and just having a good time. You can wander through the open-air paths, check out some cool shops, or enjoy a yummy meal by the ocean. It’s a chill spot to hang out with other travelers and locals, swap stories, and enjoy a drink as the sun goes down on a beautiful Hawaiian day.
Insiders Tip: A must try in the village would be the Mai Tai at the Monkeypod Restaurant Their Mai Tai has honey-lilikoi foam, as well as Kula silver and dark rums, Macadamia Nut Orgeat, and Bots Orange Curacao. Unlike the overly sweet Mai Tais you might be used to, this one is perfectly balanced, making it a standout choice.

Explore the Extraordinaries at Westin Maui Hokupa’a
The Hidden Side of the Westin Maui: Hokupa‘a
Let me spill a little secret…the Westin Maui Hokupa‘a isn’t just another tower at the resort. It’s like a tucked-away section you have to know about to fully appreciate. And once you do? Game changer.
Here’s why I loved it: mornings here don’t just start with breakfast, they start with the breakfast, fresh pastries, tropical fruit that tastes like sunshine, and that feeling that you’re already winning the day.
Then there’s the Hokupa‘a vibe itself. It’s calm, it’s elevated, and it feels like you’ve stepped away from the hustle of the main resort. You can actually breathe here — and still have access to all the fun when you want it.
And don’t get me started on the cocktails. These aren’t just poolside drinks — they’re handcrafted, thoughtful, and somehow taste even better with the Hawaiian breeze drifting in. It’s the kind of place where conversations last longer, laughs come easier, and you just… exhale.
For me, Hokupa‘a wasn’t just a stay. It was that perfect blend of luxury and low-key relaxation that made Maui feel even more magical.
Let me tell you why I loved the Westin Maui Hokupa‘a. It’s one of those places where a bit of extra luxury really goes a long way. Imagine starting your morning with a breakfast that’s not just any breakfast. It’s this awesome spread with everything from freshly baked pastries to those juicy, tropical fruits. It’s like a mini celebration to kick off your day.
And then, the cocktails. Seriously, it’s like they were made just for you. I’m talking about sipping bespoke drinks by the pool while that lovely Hawaiian breeze whispers sweet nothings into your ear. It’s the kind of setting where you can catch up with old friends or make new ones. Those mixologists really know what they’re doing—you’re not just having drinks, you’re having an experience.
Trust me, it’s totally worth every penny. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s where you make some memorable moments.

Ka’anapali Beach Vibe
Ka’anapali Beach on Maui’s west coast is a stunning three-mile stretch of golden sand and clear water. It’s perfect for snorkeling, paddleboarding, or just relaxing. The beach has a lively yet laid-back vibe, with nearby resorts, Whalers Village, and the iconic cliff diving ceremony at Black Rock, a tradition that’s been happening every evening since 1963. It’s a must-visit when you’re on the island!
Impact of Lahaina Fires
The Lahaina fires of 2023 left an indelible mark on Maui’s landscape and community. While the island continues to welcome visitors, the recovery process is ongoing and visible.
Current State of Recovery
Two years after the devastating fires, Lahaina’s recovery is slow but steady. The town’s iconic Banyan Tree, though damaged, stands as a symbol of resilience.
Reconstruction efforts are visible throughout the town, with new structures rising alongside the remnants of the old. The community’s spirit remains strong, with locals working tirelessly to rebuild their homes and businesses.
Despite progress, challenges remain. Housing shortages persist, with many residents still living in temporary accommodations. The road to full recovery is long, but the determination of the Lahaina community is unwavering.
Community and Tourism Effects
The fires have had a lasting impact on Maui’s tourism industry and local community. Many businesses in Lahaina remain closed, affecting employment and the local economy.
Traffic patterns have changed, with increased congestion on roads leading to Ka’anapali as people seek alternative routes. This has led to longer travel times for both tourists and locals.
The hospitality industry faces staffing challenges, with many workers displaced by the fires. Restaurants and hotels in unaffected areas are adapting by offering shuttles and housing assistance to employees.
Insiders Tip: The only restaurant that survived the fires in the area is Mala Ocean Tavern a small yet stunning spot with an incredible atmosphere. With the freshest seafood, an excellent wine list, and breathtaking ocean views, it’s a dining experience not to be missed. As you can imagine, the restaurant is in high demand due to the limited dining options in the area, so be prepared for a lively and bustling scene.
