Explora Journeys: A New Kind of Ocean Travel

Why Explora, Why Now

Next month, I’ll be sailing with Explora Journeys, and I’m genuinely excited about this one.

After a lifetime in hospitality and decades of personal travel I’ve become far more selective about how I move through the world. I’m drawn to experiences that feel intentional rather than performative, elegant rather than loud, and unhurried rather than over-programmed.

That’s what first caught my attention about Explora Journeys.

This sailing, Sparkling Cityscapes to Tranquil Island Escapes (February 12), promises something I value deeply: space to breathe, thoughtful design, and a pace that lets the journey unfold naturally.

Small-Ship, Yacht-Like, and Purposefully Calm

Explora Journeys is often described as feeling more like a private yacht than a traditional cruise, and from everything I’ve seen so far, that comparison fits.

The ships are beautifully designed, with wide open decks, expansive suites, and public spaces that feel serene rather than crowded. The focus isn’t on spectacle, it’s on comfort, flow, and ease.

Onboard dining is led by serious chefs, with multiple venues offering globally inspired menus. Wine and champagne are included, which supports the overall philosophy: travel should feel generous, not transactional.

How This Differs from the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

I’ve sailed on the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection three times, and it remains an excellent product. Ritz delivers a very specific experience: polished, social, ultra-luxury, and unmistakably branded.

What I’m most curious about with Explora is how it differentiates itself beyond the obvious:

  • A slightly larger ship, but still intimate
  • A more international, design-forward feel
  • A subtler approach to luxury less about being seen, more about how it feels to be onboard

Explora appears to lean into understated European luxury, whereas Ritz feels more traditionally American in its execution, even part of the Marriott Bonvoy program.

Neither is better; they’re simply different.

That difference is exactly why I’m excited to experience Explora firsthand.

Why I’m Personally Hosting This Sailing

I don’t share trips casually. If I’m talking about a journey, it’s because I believe in the experience and would happily recommend it to friends.

For this February 12 sailing, I’ll be onboard myself—experiencing the ship, the service, the dining, and the overall flow of the journey in real time.

For those who choose to join me:

  • I offer guidance on suite selection and onboard experience
  • There are exclusive value-added amenities available when booking through me
  • You’re not just booking a cruise…you’re joining a curated experience

Is This Sailing Right for You?

This journey is a great fit if you:

  • Love luxury, but not formality
  • Prefer smaller ships with space and design
  • Value food, wine, and thoughtful service
  • Want travel that feels restorative, not rushed
